Travel Theme: Slow

In a season noted for frenetic activity, socialising and end of year parties, it’s nice to take a week out and slow right down. Koalas have the right idea. In order to conserve energy, they sleep for 20 hours a day. The rest of the time they eat.

This Koala woke up for a few minutes.
This Koala woke up for a few minutes.

Koalas can be seen in the wild on Raymond Island, near Paynesville, Victoria. This is an idyllic spot for humans to slow down too, especially in the early weeks of December before the busy holiday makers arrive.

Thanks Ailsa for another engaging travel theme, Slow

  1. Lovely šŸ™‚ I think I’ve been to Raymond Island, I once knew people who lived there. The area is a great place to visit and relax. I’m hoping for some “koala days” during my holidays šŸ™‚

  2. Great shot! I hope you had a relaxing break. Friends of ours have colonised a whole street on Raymond Is! The koala community there is particularly vocal, not like those on the SW coast, seen but rarely heard.

    1. Raymond Island has a very temperate climate, almost sub tropical. It would be tempting to colonise the place, as the ‘imported’ koalas have done. My great grandfather lived there and my grandfather was born there: I felt their spirit. Yes the Koals along the GOR are alos sweet little things.
The break was wonderful at Lake Tyers- all that rain meant behaving like a Koala. Now back to those berries and zucchini and long grass….
